OUR PROJECT EXPERIENCE
Ahrens has a proven track record of delivering high-quality design and construct solutions for a variety of clients in the bulk handling sector.
INGHAM'S FEED MILL
Murray Bridge, South Australia
The Ahrens team were engaged to complete a landmark feedmill for client Ingham's, Australia's largest integrated poultry producer.
Located at Murray Bridge in South Australia, the state-of-the-art facility combines Ahrens' design and construction capabilities with our Australian-made silo manufacturing.
With work spanning over two years, Ahrens designed and manufactured 45 silos for the facility, which included eight grain silos, 16 meals silos and 21 pellet silos to be used for the storage of various raw materials and grains used for chicken pellets.
NATRIO SODA ASH FACILITY
Port Adelaide, South Australia
Ahrens designed and constructed a 3600m2 new storage facility at Port Adelaide for client Natrio, a global company specialising in the import and distribution of high volume, dry chemicals, efficient logistics and supply chain solutions.
The scope of works consisted of a large open storage warehouse and 800m2 undercover annex for the storage of soda ash, a raw product that is a key element in cement and glass bottle making.
The completed warehouse allows for soda ash to be loaded and deposited inside the warehouse, with load-out involving feeding the product via a front-loader into a feed hopper, then into a bucket elevator and truck via a silo.
Sheaoak Log, South Australia
This grain storage and handling expansion project consisted of the supply and construction of eight 2,600 tonne flat bottom silos for repeat client Andrew Tremlett.
Works included concrete foundations incorporating 'H' style flush floor aeration, two 300 tonne-per-hour bucket elevators with six way distributors and associated chute work, and transfer conveyors and structural support towers with access ladders.
Ahrens were able to add value during the design phase by optimising storage capacity in line with the structural footing detail and material handling equipment capabilities. This effectively increased storage capacity by a further 800 tonne at a minimal additional cost to the client.
BUNGE BULK GRAIN EXPORT FACILITY
Bunbury, Western Australia
Ahrens design and constructed a new bulk grain export facility for leading agri-business and food company, Bunge.
Located at the Bunbury port in Western Australia, the $40 million-dollar facility has a storage capacity of 50,000 tonnes.
Ahrens' scope of work included the construction of six 7,300 tonne flat bottom silos and four 700 tonne hopper bottom silos as well as office, road intake buildings and material handling infrastructure.
Using its in-house steel fabrication facilities, Ahrens also produced the structural steel and bases for the hopper bottom silos.
IRANDA FEED MILL
Tintinara, South Australia
Ahrens designed and constructed this new wet-roll feedmill to supply feed for up to 15,000 head of cattle on the expanded Iranda Beef feedlot for clients Thomas Foods International and Iranda Beef.
The plant included two 500 tonne grain silos, two 70 tonne tempering silos, in-ground receival with cleaning, conveyors, elevators, wetting and mixing equipment, a control room and a new 24" x 48" roller mill. Mills were mounted under the roof and over the feed bunkers so no downstream equipment was required. The mill also included a three-tank liquid system.
