Olympic Dam stage two

structural steel and building works

This project consisted of a number of structural steel and building works contracts for numerous companies as part of Olympic Dam Stage 2, all completed over a period of three years.  The structural steel contracts included a waste heat boiler for Oschwatz (Germany), a sulphuric acid plant for Monsanto and HV electrical towers for ABB Industries.

The waste heat boiler measured 16 metres wide and high, by 40 metres long, and weighed 320 tonnes.  Building works included 24.88 transportable switchrooms for ABB, which were fabricated and fitted out at Ahrens Sheaoak Log factory, before being transported to Roxby Downs on megalifters.

Other building works included 14 industrial buildings for Western Mining Corporation and a uranium plant expansion for KBR.
