Tan Burrup Nitrates
Burrup, Western Australia
Ahrens designed and constructed a downstream Technical Ammonium Nitrate (TAN) production facility for end user, Yarra Nitrates.
Ahrens were initially awarded the contract to design and construct five buildings ranging from 300 to 9,500m2 in size.
Scope of works included a two storey compressor shelter, bulk storage building, chemical store, spare parts building and transporter workshop.
Adelaide Brighton Cement CM7 Mill
Birkenhead, South Australia
Due to Ahrens’ broad expertise, all components of this project were delivered in one turnkey package to ensure fast-tracked delivery of both the CM7 Cement Mill building and mill feed system.
The multi-level central cement mill building was an intricate and complex project in terms of all the different elements required, which included air, water and dense-phase piping plus fabrication and installation of the mill mechanical lubrication system.
In terms of the feedmill, Ahrens provided the detailed conveyor design and supplied all the mechanical items, as well as fabricating the majority of structural steel for the mill feed system, conveyor galleries, storage bins, chutes and transfer towers
16 mega litre tank liner replacement
Newman, Western Australia
Ahrens Mining Services Newman were engaged to replace the leaking lining of a 16 mega litre water storage tank.
Scope of works included the installation of two pressure reducing valve assemblies to allow for tank isolation, removal of the existing liner and sub grade, installation of a new concrete tank base spanning 1,146m2, installation of a new overflow and scour, installation of new XR5 liner fabric and the addition of PAX Water Mixer to the 16ML tank.
Works were completed three and a half weeks ahead of schedule, within budget and with zero incidents over the 8,725 total man hours.
Surface Workshop Expansion
Olympic Dam, South Australia
Ahrens were successful in being awarded Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the increase Surface Workshop Capacity project for BHP Asset Projects Group at Olympic Dam in South Australia.
Works included the design and construct of a 2,300m2 extension to allow for another 12 bays in the diesel workshop building and the electrical and mechanical fit out of the extension.
Xstrata Mine Mount Isa
Mount Isa, Queensland
This project entailed the design and construction of a zinc filter plant and concentrate storage and outload facility. The project included new filters capable of producing 700,000 tonnes per annum of dried concentrate.
Clever programming enabled the storage facility to be built from the inside out to eliminate a build-up of zinc concentrate. All framework and support beams are visible on the exterior of the shed, providing a smooth interior surface.
The state-of-the-art outload facility was constructed over a railway line, allowing trains to pull into the shed so concentrate can be loaded into carts and covered internally. On completion, this project has helped reduce the concentration of zinc particles in the air by 75%. In addition to the environmental benefits, the facility has increased production to nearly double the previous production rate.
Oz Minerals Prominent Hill
Prominent Hill, South Australia
Ahrens were engaged to design and erect structures to cover Oz Minerals’ storage areas for copper concentrate and to cover the weighbridge.
The concentrate covers were column free, approximately 40m by 60m long with one open end allowing easy removal of the concentrate. The weighbridge cover consisted of a 60m wall and cantilevered roof. It also features a full length walkway for access to take samples from the truck The design and fabrication of the covers incorporate Ahrens’ CEB tapered beams.
