Local Communities
Ahrens has a proud history of supporting communities in regional Australia. Stemming from the outstanding level of community service displayed by Bob and Marj Ahrens over many years, the Ahrens Group and its divisions support worthwhile charities to improve the lives of those in need and within our local communities. With more than 90% of our workforce based outside of capital cities, employees and their families have developed strong networks in regional areas, through school, social and sporting networks.
Work in Kind
Supporting the community extends to project work, with Ahrens donating structural steel, or discounted construction projects in support of worthy organisations. Recent examples include donating structural steel to Ronald McDonald House; the design and construction, at cost, of a new office/workshop facility for Barossa Enterprises in Nuriootpa (pictured), and construction work on a Salvation Army outreach centre.
Major Sponsorship
Other beneficiaries of our support include the National Heart Foundation and the Royal Flying Doctor Service - high profile organisations whose work has direct relevance to those living in regional and remote areas.
Field Bin Offer
In 2010, Ahrens donated 100 field bins to country football clubs in South Australia and Victoria to thank rural communities for their support over more than 100 years. The clubs auctioned the field bins and retained all of the proceeds, raising a total of more than $750,000.
Employee Donation Scheme
Ahrens encourages its employees to support their community through the Employee Donation Scheme. Each
year, this enables individual employees to nominate a charity to receive a donation from Ahrens on their behalf. Some employees choose to support sporting or welfare groups within their local communities, while children’s and medical charities are also popular choices.
Staff Fundraisers
Over many years, Ahrens’ employees have enthusiastically supported fundraising for research foundation through Jeans for Genes, Movember, Lighten Up SA and The World’s Greatest Shave.
