Metcash Coldstore Expansion

Ahrens was initially engaged to design and construct a 4850m2 industrial freezer to expand the client’s existing facility. To achieve the required operating temperature of -28oC, the freezer was insulated with EPS panels and had a dual-layer ventilated slab floor. Ahrens also installed an ESFR sprinkler system with dry chargers to meet requirements.

Following the completion of the freezer, Ahrens was engaged to upgrade Metcash’s fire pump system for the entire site, as well as remove an internal EPS wall in the existing cold store/freezer to make way for a new racking layout. The combined value of the freezer building and variations was $10 million.
