Following the successful completion of the Olympic Dam South Temporary Camp, BHP enlisted Ahrens
to undertake the design and construction of a new Exploration Hub at Oak Dam.
This exploration village and core processing facility marked one of South Australia’s most extensive exploration endeavours. Leveraging BHP’s existing stock of accommodation modules and central facilities alongside newly erected modular buildings, Ahrens orchestrated the development of a cutting-edge 150-room accommodation village, expandable to accommodate up to 300 rooms. The design prioritised accessibility with DDA compliant access, minimised ground disruption, and boasted fully off-grid power and water supply systems. Additionally, Ahrens crafted a state-of-the-art core processing facility, office space, and change room facilities tailored for efficient mineral exploration, capable of supporting 14 drill rigs. To further enhance operational capabilities, Ahrens facilitated water storage and the installation of bore pumps, ensuring a steady supply of raw water to the on-site drill rigs.
